Introductory Chess For Kids

Winter 2020 

Six (6) Tuesday evening classes beginning January 7th and ending February 11th at the Wheeler Library from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Grades: 3rd through 12th

Cost: $35

Chess can improve academic performance, and it is fun to play after learning the rules.  The instructor, Arthur Dobley, has played on Chess teams, in tournaments, and has taught classes.  Arthur will teach children beginning and intermediate Chess including: set up, names of pieces, movement, capture, defense, attack, getting the king, and strategy.  Class will have demonstrations, but will focus on the students playing friendly critiqued games, and also tournament style matches.  This class will focus on the roles of each Chess piece.
